I’m Aidan May - I’m a crossover saxophonist, woodwind doubler, composer and producer.
I began music in my primary school choir before becoming a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral. This sacred choral background has strongly influenced my conception of sound, particularly on the higher saxophones.

I studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under John Harle and also studied flute with Nick Moss and Ian Clarke, clarinet with Joy Farrall, alongside electronic music second-study and film scoring.

I am the soprano saxophonist in the Melos Saxophone Quartet, performing recitals across London and UK. In 2024, the Melos Saxophone Quartet commissioned a piece from composer and saxophonist Christian Forshaw. The result was “Milton Road”, a beautiful work that we hope will find its place among the established repertoire for the saxophone quartet. We later collaborated with Forshaw again to produce a recording of the piece which was released in 2025.

In the summer of 2025 I had the delight of spending a day in the studio with Isobel Waller-Bridge to record soprano and tenor saxophones and bass clarinet for her recent album, “Objects”. “Objects” is out now on Universal Music.

As well as woodwinds, I continue to sing - although perhaps less than I would like! I am a strong 2nd bass, having performed with Tara Minton as a member of Clare Wheeler’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble, as part of the vocal recording sessions for Apple TV’s Big Beasts, and more recently in the Chorus of Zbigniew Preisner’s “My Life” at the Barbican featuring Lisa Gerard.

Composition is an essential part of my musical vision; there is great creative freedom in performing my own works, primarily on saxophone. Compositions include Burn, a mini concerto for soprano Saxophone and 9-piece band which I premiered in June 2023.

I am very keen to engage in many forms of work; I play saxophones (SATB), Bb and bass clarinet, flute and piccolo. Beyond playing, I would be delighted to aid in any composing, arranging and producing work.
